Structural steel takeoff & pricing, 2-story school building

Project overview

Structural steel takeoff and estimate for the two-story Carlsbad Middle School in Carlsbad, New Mexico, covering 130,597 SF of floor and roof framing. Every column, beam, girder and angle was taken off by member size and length and converted to weight, giving 774 tons of structural members before joists and deck. Detailing, delegated connection design and erection were priced alongside the material so the steel contractor had one complete Division 05 number.

Scope of the estimate

  • Wide-flange columns, beams and girders with base plates and connection plates, by member size
  • K-series and long-span DLH/LH open web steel joists, with bridging and bracing
  • Composite floor deck with shear studs, and galvanized roof deck
  • Anchor rods, high-strength bolt assemblies, lintels and support angles
